June 17: Junk in the Trunk parking lot sale from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (rain or sun); Robert McClure United Church Parking Lot, 5510 - 26 Avenue N.E. Want to sell your junk? Rent a parking space for $25. Definitely come and shop. Bob’s Café will be open all day, too. The Junk in the Trunk sale will turn the parking lot into a huge garage sale, with goods sold from the trunks of cars. You can bring your own table for set up. Proceeds from the junk sold at each parking space belongs to the renter but may be donated to the Robert McClure United Church or other worthy causes. Phone 403-280-9500 to reserve a space.

June 18: Youth Service: each year we are gifted with wisdom and insight from our youth. Fresh from the annual Unitarian youth Convention in Edmonton, this year promises to be full of surprises and fun. Unitarian Church of Calgary, 1703 - 1st Street N.W. at 10:30 a.m.

June 18: 10:30 a.m., Second Sunday after Pentecost with presiding Rev. Deborah Kerr at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church at 8007 Bowness Road N.W. Hear about how Jesus encouraged all his disciples to stay renewed and strong in their journey of disciplesh­ip. Afterwards, enjoy fellowship, baked goods and beverage.

June 25: 10:30 a.m., 13th Annual African American Spirituals Worship Service Honours Journey From Slavery to Freedom: St. Matthew’s United Church is pleased to present its 13th annual African American Spirituals worship service, at St. Matthew’s United Church (2035 - 26A Street S.W.) Each year, the St. Matthew’s choir commemorat­es and pays tribute to the historic struggle of the countless men, women and children who were victims of the slave trade. This year’s performanc­e is especially bitterswee­t as it coincides with conductor David Ferguson’s retirement. An admired chorister and conductor in Canada, Ferguson has led the St. Matthew’s choir since 2005. Light refreshmen­ts will be served immediatel­y following the performanc­e to mark David Ferguson’s retirement.
