Get a proper 150th national symbol

Re: Giant rubber duck’s trip will cost taxpayers $200K, May 30

As a student attending Rundle College, I’ve been eagerly anticipating Canada’s 150th birthday.

Shock and confusion dampened my enthusiasm as I viewed the photo of the giant rubber ducky costing $200,000 which Canadian taxpayers are pouring into U.S. pockets.

A giant, yellow rubber duck?

How does this represent Canada? Canada is famous for Banff National Park, the Rockies, Niagara Falls and more.

The Maple Leaf, the beaver and ice hockey are internationally recognized symbols.

If Ontario Premier Wynne wants to spend taxpayer dollars, she could support a Canadian artist to uniquely represent Canada. Antheia Leong, Calgary
