Harvey aces No. 2 at Lakeview

Jay Harvey is on a run of good luck. Harvey celebrated his first hole-in-one in early June, breezing through the fifth test on Earl Grey’s Lakeview loop with one smooth swing of a sand-wedge from 108 yards away. Wait, it gets better. Harvey teed it up with his wife and two daughters Sunday, again on Earl Grey’s familyfriendly short course, and now has two aces to brag about after a gorgeous gap-wedge from 128 yards away on No. 2. Hopefully the kids didn’t buy him a new putter for Father’s Day. He rarely seems to need one.

Here’s another good tale … Dave Surmon was sizing up a 150-yard tee-shot on the eighth hole at Springbank Links but with a blue pin and a breeze in his face, he decided he needed a bit more oomph. As Surmon returned to his bag to fetch his nine-iron, he apologized to his friends for the delay, telling them that his grandfather, former Alberta Amateur contender and Willingdon Cup representative Johnny Aitken, would want him to make the switch. At address, he said ‘This one’s for you, Grampa,’ and then watched as his ball found the bottom of the cup for his first ace.

Also at Springbank Links, Jerry Handford completed his personal hole-in-one hat-trick, finishing No. 5 with one crack of a nine-iron from 156 yards out.

Clarence Formanek added a third ace to his own resume, making short work of No. 17 at Silver Springs thanks to a pin-seeking nine-wood that covered 150 yards.

Mark Olynyk finished a spin of Shaganappi’s Valley Nine on a high note — sinking his tee-shot on No. 9. Olynyk smacked a six-iron from the 145-yard blocks for the fairy tale ending.

Ruth Roberts thumped a ninewood on the eighth test at McCall Lake and her aim was outstanding from 115 yards away.

Garry Friedrichsen was oneand-done the eighth hole at Douglasdale thanks to nifty nine-iron from 118 yards out.

Joan Cooper will be saying only good things about her sand wedge, her weapon of choice for a 69-yard ace on the sixth hole of the Bridges Nine at Glencoe.

Also at the 45-hole private hangout, Fred Moore mastered No. 4 on the Lakes loop, draining a tee-ball from 160 yards away.
