Councillors treated CCRC shamefully

-

Re: “Mayor criticizes councillors for rejecting suggested salary cuts,” June 19

As a fellow committee member of the city compensation review committee (CCRC), I also found the way we were treated at the May 29th meeting to be rude and aggressive. The councillors clearly had the upper hand in the meeting. For instance, they got to sit while we had to stand for two hours, and we were only allowed to speak when asked a direct question. They used their power to belittle the work we did.

Additionally, all councillors were sent a survey to give their input on the work we were doing, and were given the opportunity to meet with us beforehand. Only 9/15 councillors completed the survey and only one councillor met with anyone from the CCRC. To attack a volunteer committee that worked so hard over seven months when the councillors themselves were so unwilling to help shows a group of people who are completely entitled and out of touch with reality.
