Air traffic part of Calgary for decades

Re: Air traffic causes anger on the ground, Letter, June 17

Jane Hillard writes about the thousands of folks who suddenly find themselves living beneath the very unfriendly skies of a high-density air traffic corridor.

However, the airport opened as McCall Field in 1938. Unless you purchased your house prior to 1938, no one has “suddenly” been exposed to aircraft noise. Obviously, the number of aircraft has increased over the years, but anyone buying property near an international airport could reasonably assume that volume and flight paths are not going to remain the same in the long term.
