Handmaid made good

- MELISSA HANK

Eerily relevant and undeniably buzzworthy, The Handmaid’s Tale has been cutting a swath through the Canadian TV ratings — and with the June 11 episode, its penultimate, it finally cracked the Top 10. The show based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 dystopian novel has already been renewed for a second season, debuting next year.

“The fact that we get to continue that story, when do you ever get to do that? That’s so rare,” star Elisabeth Moss told Entertainment Weekly. “As a fan of a book, to then get to continue the story? Come on — it doesn’t happen, it’s so cool.”

Also building on its strong debut, Jennifer Lopez’s competition series World of Dance landed in third place for the second consecutive week.

And gearing up for its series finale, homegrown medical drama Saving Hope popped up at No. 13.

“I’m actually going to miss all of the medical stuff that we learned,” star Erica Durance told TV, eh?

“Our medical consultant, Bryce Taylor, he was a chief of surgery, and he’s in there working with us and teaching me how to suture.” Across the country, Global News Hour was tops in Vancouver and Edmonton, CTV Evening News won out in Montreal, the Stanley Cup Finals scored in Calgary and America’s Got Talent took the top spot in the Greater Toronto Area.
