Darryl Conroy named new chair for BILD board
As Darryl Conroy steps into a key role for the Calgary area residential industry, he says it will be important to help provide a steady hand.
Conroy is the new chairman of the board of directors for BILD (Building Industry Land Development) Calgary Region.
“I think it comes down to consistent messaging, consistent work flow, consistent approvals,” Conroy says. “We want to make sure we are providing timely information and being that strategic group, so that the City of Calgary can lean on us for anything from specification changes all the way to policy reviews.
“Just maintaining that consistent relationship and continuing to build on this great city,” he adds.
Conroy, whose day job is vicepresident of operations at Borger Group of Companies, has been involved in residential work in the Calgary area for 20 years.
On the current relationship between the City of Calgary and the residential industry, Conroy says “there’s been a lot of transparency.”
“All levels of each organization, the City of Calgary, as well as ours, they’re engaged at multiple levels, which is beneficial to the whole industry,” he says. “So we get one common voice and one common direction.”
Conroy is the second ever chairman for BILD Calgary Region, following Allan Klassen, who held the lead role in the association’s opening year.
“It’s been nice to continue to learn off of Allan Klassen, a great leader in the industry,” he says. “It’s a great opportunity for me personally. It’s nice to be part of a team within the industry and make things happen.”
In March 2016, members of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Calgary Region and Urban Development Institute-Calgary voted for an amalgamation be- tween the two groups, leading to the eventual creation of BILDCalgary Region.
Along with Conroy, the new executive board of directors consists of Paul Boskovich of Genstar Development Co. as first vice-chair; Brett Friesen of Hopewell Residential Management as second vice-chair; Fraser de Walle, of the Alberta New Home Warranty Program as secretary/treasurer; Klassen from Brookfield Residential as past-chair; and Guy Huntingford as CEO.
The remaining directors on the board are Ryan Boyd, Brookfield Residential; Collin Campbell, Mattamy Homes; Elaine Doel, McKee Homes; Ryan Erickson, Kidco Construction; Wendy Going, Timber Tech Truss Inc.; Jill Huber, Apex; Shannon Lenstra, Kon- Strux Developments Inc.; Ian Nash, Brookfield; Sean Nolan, Jayman Built; Jane Power, Urban Systems Limited; James Robertson, West Campus Development Trust; Shane Wenzel, Shane Homes; and Mark Wynker, Stantec Consulting Ltd.
