KIRKWOOD HAS FAMILY APPEAL

- JOSH SKAPIN

The Kirkwood has what large families look for when deciding where to put down roots.

The Kirkwood’s four bedrooms, welcoming gathering spaces, flexibility and walkable distance to schools all help make this moveup model by NuVista Homes an attractive find.

The 2,391-square-foot model with a front-attached, two-car garage is displayed as a show home in Ravenswood, a master-planned community by Qualico Communities in Airdrie.

Ravenswood’s current phase puts buyers within a short walk to Les Petits Pieds Preschool and Ecole francophone D’Airdrie, as well as Heloise Lorimer School.

As a whole, the community also provides 8.2 hectares of green space, four parks, one feature playground and a soccer field, giving families an abundance of space to enjoy the outdoors.

Ravenswood’s location on the southeast end of Airdrie helps provide people who work in Calgary a swift commute, with convenient access to Hwy. 2.

With the Kirkwood, young families with more than two children will appreciate its approach to bedrooms.

At certain ages, having all of the sleep spaces on the same level is key. This home has four bedrooms on the second floor, led by a 14 foot six inch by 13 foot nine inch master bedroom along the back.

The parents of the family will enjoy its accessory spaces, with a spa-inspired ensuite linking to a large U-shaped walk-in closet.

Featured in the ensuite bathroom are dual vanities, with generous space between them, under a full-width mirror. This is next to a deep soaker tub and stand-alone shower.

With a design that presents a winged effect, the three second-

ary bedrooms on the opposite end of the second floor combine with a central bonus room to serve as a buffer, creating privacy between the two sides.

One of the secondary bedrooms is accessed from the bonus room. Separated by a bulkhead, the other two bedrooms sit side-by-side and adjacent to a full bathroom along the front of the home.

This floor plan also factors in the convenience of not needing to haul laundry up and down a flight of stairs. There’s a laundry room with a front-load washer and dryer next to the master bedroom.

For families, one of the more underrated attributes to a home is the ability to use the space for multiple purposes. Just off the foyer, there’s a flex room.

And while it’s staged as a home office in the show home, it can may also make sense as a children’s play area, or exercise room.

Both the foyer and mud room are well-sized, making it easy for the children of the family to bring their friends over and not feel cramped while taking off their shoes and jackets. The mud room can be accessed through the kitchen’s walkthrough pantry.

The back end of the main level is open-concept and bright. Through large rear-facing windows, the great room, dining area, and Lshaped kitchen all pull in a pleasing level of natural light.

All three spaces are setup to make entertaining easy. The kitchen wraps along two sides of a spacious central island with a sink and extended eating bar that seats three people. Around the island, there’s plenty of space to either circulate or gather.

Its appliances are stainless steel, including a wall oven and chimneystyle hood fan.
