Haworth makes work comfortable, efficient

- SHANNON SUTHERLAND-SMITH

Haworth Inc. is a global company that is locally relevant and individually focused.

Its mission in Calgary is the same as its mission in the more than 120 countries that Haworth operates in — creating customized office furniture and design solutions to bring inspiring spaces to life, whether in downtown Hong Kong, Halifax or just over in Inglewood.

“Haworth’s leaders and talent understand how space can influence and support a positive culture by enhancing engagement and fostering collaboration to drive innovation,” says CraigHoover, director of Western Canada forHaworth Inc. in Calgary.

“Real estate has the potential for nurturing the health and well-being of the people who work there. Haworth’s solutions are grounded in research and we have been investing in it since 1948, partnering with experts including academic institutions and private research firms. We harness ideas from around the world to redefine the way interiors are designed.”

Research, innovation, design and global expertise are core competencies at Haworth, which holds more than 350 patents and operates 81 field offices worldwide.

Founded by G.W. Haworth almost 70 years ago, the privately held company boasts more than 6,500 employees who live around the globe, conducting business in more than 30 languages, but they always remain locally rooted and connected.

The company designs and manufactures products that are sourced and produced in the markets where they’re delivered, reflecting the commitment of leadership to maintain strong local ties and invest in those relationships.

Supporting charitable organizations and expressing gratitude by giving back to the communities in which it operates have also had an incredibly positive impact on Haworth’s workplace culture and reputation over the years, saysHoover.

“We donate every year to various charities, investing in our youth through scholarships, sponsorships and continuing education,” says Hoover. “We also support new business ventures, providing space, the use of our newest technology and professional catering for business meetings for anywhere from six to 60 people.”

Pride in the city and a continual commitment to its betterment are what build the future, he says.

“Our community’s growth and development is crucial to us all.”

In the years ahead, Hoover says Haworth will continue to support the local economy by partnering with customers, dealers and influencers to help redefine the way interiors are designed, built and maintained.
