The Sobeys Inc. Better Food Fund has a simple message. Eat better. Feel better. Do better. Words to live by, to be sure. Launched in October 2014, the fund supports access to — and the advancement of — better food through donations and partnerships with Canadian charities.
More than 900 communities have been supported through the fund.
Its biggest initiative in our fair city was the recent Sobeys Better Food Fund Charity Golf Classic held at Priddis Greens July 20.
One hundred per cent of the proceeds raised through the Charity Golf Classic ensure myriad individuals — regardless of income, age or ability — have access to affordable wholesome food, basic cooking skills and nutrition education.
Sponsors, Sobeys employees, guest golfers and athletes with Special Olympics Canada — an organization Sobeys heartily supports — gathered at Gasoline Alley, Heritage Park, July 19 for the registration reception and golf fair.
Kudos to all involved on the success of the tournament especially invaluable sponsors: Coca-Cola Refreshments; Kruger Products; Air Miles; Cyba Stevens; Unilever; Westro Food Group; Agropur Dairy Co-operative; Kellogg’s; Maple Leaf; Kraft Heinz; and Postmedia, to name but a few.
Host with the most, Sobeys president and CEO Michael Medline joined forces with colleagues Jason Potter, Lyne Castonguay, Tuesday O’Krainetz, Simon Gagne, Trevor Bartlett, Clinton Keay, Jana Sobey, Andrew Walker and Renee Hopfner in welcoming and thanking invaluable partners and supporters.
Others in attendance included: TSN’s Gord Miller; Coca-Cola Refreshments’ Bruno Solby and Scott Lindsay; Unilever’s Martin Payant and Derek Knieling; Kruger Products’ Michel Manseau; Air Miles president Blair Cameron with colleagues Hilary Bell and Tracy Sherin; Postmedia’s Dean Jager; Olympian Kyle Shewfelt; Priddis Greens GM Chad Thomlinson and Head Pro Ron Laugher; and Special Olympians Bill Hurley ( basketball), Shane Stewart (cross-country); and Mark Evans ( golf and downhill).
