Country quiet with easy commute into city

-

“It’s quiet, that’s the big one,” says Jan, adding at night, they only hear owls. “We spent some time out there. We went out to Langdon Days (an annual festival) last year and wanted to see what the community was like and what the people were like. Everyone was so friendly, schools are there, you’ve got a Tim Hortons, a grocery store.

“I find myself, less and less going into the city for anything,” he says.

Jan has lived in Calgary since his family moved from Sweden when he was a small child. When he thought about what it would be like to leave, he worried about what that would mean for his commute to work.

“I start work at 6 a.m. but if I am leaving my house in Langdon, I make it to the South Centre Mall (area) in half an hour,” Jan says. “That’s doing the speed limit.”

“I thought the commute was going to bother me, but it doesn’t at all. I have three major ways to get in there, Highway 22X, Glenmore Trail and the Trans-Canada Highway.”

Qualico Communities is another community developer with plans to head into Langdon.

“Langdon offers various types of homes including larger lots with estate products with easy access into Calgary — a commute time of around 20 minutes to the city, while having the small town charm community feel,” says Qualico’s marketing specialist Daisy Lieu.

Its community dubbed Painted Sky will stretch about 111 hectares and Qualico expects it will build out to about 1,100 homes. The community will feature Broadview Homes, Sterling Homes and NuVista Homes, all a part of Qualico, along with potentially two additional builders still to be announced.

Lieu says the homes will have laned and front-drive single-family homes, with options for first-time, move-up and larger estate home buyers. The first home is expected to take root in early 2019.
