SALES CENTRE SOLD, MOVED AS PROJECT GROWS

Started in 2008, the Mahogany community by Hopewell Residential now has 5,000 residents

For many of those who call Mahogany home, the little cottage on the corner of Mahogany Gate and Mahogany Terrace was their introduction to a totally new residential experience.

“The Mahogany sales centre was always a hub of activity, and our first foray into manufactured housing,” says Paul Taylor, president and chief operating officer of Hopewell Residential.

Many will remember the cottage- style centre for its massive tabletop model that laid out Hopewell’s future grand vision of the community in pastureland in southeast Calgary.

That vision included lakefront, island, and beachfront homes, a series of impressive residential neighbourhoods, the Mahogany Village Market and Urban Village retail nodes, a 63-acre lake, pathways, green space, and 21 acres of beaches — aimed at homebuyers looking for that something different.

That vision and the sales success has led to Mahogany being named Calgary’s community of the year three times, and to Hopewell being named the city and region’s multifamily builder of the year for 2016.

While Mahogany continues to grow and offer various styles of homes and prices, all created with lifestyle in mind, the cottage sales and presentation centre has moved on.

Hooked onto a McCann’s Building Movers rig, it made an twonight move to the Caroline area where it has been repurposed as an office for an RV park, according to Jim McCann.

“The Mahogany information centre opened in September 2008 and was later used as a sales centre for the Sandgate apartment condo project in 2015. It was ultimately closed in the spring of 2016 when we moved into show homes within the first Sandgate building,” says Scott Hamilton, director of marketing and brand recognition at Hopewell.

From those first baby steps, taken with the help of that cottage, Mahogany now boasts 3,000 households and about 5,000 residents. With the projected build out date still 15 to 20 years away, Hamilton says the population has been forecast to reach at least 25,000.

This fall will be a busy one for Mahogany and Hopewell with three special occasions set to introduce new housing product.

The Reserve Collection opens today. The show home parade shows lakeside estate homes by Homes by Avi, Morrison Homes, and Calbridge Homes priced from the $700,000s, and executive paired homes by Section 23 priced from the $490,000s. Then on Sept. 24, four front-attached garage show homes will open, showing models that will be priced from the $440,000s.

Finally, on Oct. 15, the Sandgate condos, with units priced from $130,000s, will have their grand opening.

Recently, Westman Village held the grand opening of its Journey Club Discovery Centre, which will cater to all retirement lifestyles.

“What we’re going to see with the opening of these new phases will be lots with direct lake access as well as a variety of starter and move-up homes in close proximity to the Beach Club and main beach area,” says Hamilton.

These openings will add to the array of condos, paired homes, estate homes, laned homes, and front-attached garage homes available throughout the community, and priced from the $100,000s to $1 million-plus.

Mahogany has come together exactly as was envisioned and that has gained national recognition, says Taylor.

“We couldn’t be happier with the way the community has been embraced by homebuyers in this city, who are passionate about the Mahogany way of life and the timeless quality the community presents. It has quickly become one of Calgary’s most coveted addresses, and Hopewell is incredibly proud of our work on, and in, the community,” he adds.
