Carla MacLeod, a two-time Olympic gold medallist during her days as a defensive stalwart for the national women’s hockey team, saved her best shot for last during Tuesday’s Calgary Flames Celebrity Charity Golf Classic.

With a shotgun start on three separate layouts, MacLeod’s final assignment of the day was No. 14 at Country Hills Talons, and she didn’t need a putter. The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame inductee — now the head coach for the Edge School’s female midget prep squad — hit a three-hybrid and was right on target from 180 yards away for the ace.

The tournament raised $380,000 for the Calgary Flames Foundation.

Hole 17 at Valley Ridge is a dynamite downhiller, so Carey Williamson would have been treated to a splendid view of his third career ace and first at his home club. Williamson walloped a five-iron from 207 yards away, giving the gents reason to celebrate on men’s night.

Allan Jones also completed his personal hole-in-one hat trick, the latest a nifty nine-iron from 158 yards out on No. 8 on Elbow Spring’s Mountain View layout.

Derek Young made the turn in style during a spin at Canal at Delacour, notching an ace on the ninth hole. Young cracked an eight-iron with his brother and two buddies as witnesses.

Carole McIntosh and Paul Kane can swap stories about their special shots on the fourth hole at Lakeview. McIntosh was pin-seeking with an awesome eightiron from 83 yards out, while Kane covered the same distance with a gap wedge.
