A man and a woman are in custody and charges are pending in connection with the brutal deaths of three people found in a burned car in Sage Hill last July.

Calgary police announced Tuesday evening they were interviewing two people in connection with the murders. Their names will be released once they have appeared before a justice of the peace, police said.

The arrests are connected to the deaths of Glynnis Fox, 36, Cody Pfeiffer, 25, and Tiffany Ear, 39, who were found dead in a burning car in Sage Hill on July 10, and Hanock Afowerk, 26, who was found dead two days later near Highway 22 and Highway 8.

It’s been almost three months since Calgary police have spoken about the quadruple homicide.

Last July, Calgary police identified two persons of interest in what they were then calling a “huge” step forward in the case.

Yu Chieh Liao, who also goes by the name Diana Liao, and Tewodros Mutugeta Kebede, were arrested in Toronto late last July on unrelated matters.

Investigators said at the time that they had linked Liao to a rental vehicle used in the crime at Sage Hill. They also believed that Liao and Afowerk knew each other.

Acting Insp. Paul Wozney told reporters last July that some of the victims found in the car may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Fox and Ear were sisters that may have gotten caught up in a targeted attack against Afowerk,” Wozney said.

“The CPS would like to acknowledge the family members suffering in this tragic loss and offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victims.”
