NATURAL BEAUTY, ELEGANT SPACES SPOIL THE SENSES IN SILVERHORN

Bearspaw development brings a larger scale to luxury living

- JOSH SKAPIN

Stately, grand, a treasure chest of high-end spaces and specifications, on a home site steeped in natural beauty.

This is what Maillot Homes has displayed with its latest show home in Silverhorn, a masterplanned luxury acreage community in Bearspaw.

The home has six bedrooms, six bathrooms and two half-bathrooms and reaches 8,932 square feet, including a 2,100-squarefoot attached garage on a private 0.6-hectare (1.51-acre) lot.

It starts with a gated driveway leading to an exterior that exudes old world elegance, with natural thunderstone rundle masonry and Indiana limestone capping.

The main floor delivers two options for cooking. One’s a spacious but closed-off space intended for meal preparation and the other is an open-concept showpiece.

The former is equipped with all the tools a domestic chef looks for, with a cooktop and oven, integrated freezer, warming drawers, and a Blanco detachable chrome faucet.

It also has white Caesarstone quartz counters, an eye-catching concrete tile backsplash — and handy access for finding the right wine pairing — a built-in Sub-Zero wine storage.

This kitchen is a functional choice for both keeping the mess of meal preparation out the of the view of guests, and containing the aromas that may come from cooking spicier cuisines.

In the primary kitchen, the luxurious 16-foot island in quartzite with a sink and extended eating bar is the main attraction. It’s another option for chopping, dicing, stirring and seasoning, but also an impressive area to showcase platters of food, or gather and socialize with company.

As displayed in the show home, it comfortably seats five people.

With the kitchen’s focus being light and bright, its blackened stainless steel hood fan with brushed brass trim is an attractive counterpoint.

Other cooking space features include white oak cabinets that are custom finished on site, along with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, such as a 48-inch dual fuel range, steam oven, and two 36-inch fridges. There are two integrated Asko dishwashers, as well.

The great room is 24 feet eight inches by 21 feet, using a fireplace in Statuario marble surround as its focal point.

From here, the sitting and/or socializing can step into the fresh air with a wraparound patio headlined by a natural stone fireplace.

There are 10-foot ceilings across the main and lower levels of the home, and they’re nine feet on the second floor.

One of the areas that feels enhanced by this towering height is the large formal dining room just off the front foyer, where people will find themselves naturally drawn to look up. Its ceiling is uncommonly dark and done in a coffered design.

While dark ceilings can something lead to darker spaces, in this design, it’s avoided this through substantial front-facing windows that pull in an abundance of sunshine.

The design of this home consistently emphasizes visual interest. Something eye-catching that elevates the appeal of the space beyond its sheer size. Not the least of which being its connection to the other levels of the home.

This central spiral white oak staircase with custom lacquered panelling is another treat. Looking down it from the top level, the dazzling lines make it easy for someone to want to snap a photo on their smartphone.

An elevator next to the stairwell accesses all three levels of the home.

The first few steps onto the top level of the home is reminiscent of an upscale gallery. A grand chandelier hangs above the stairwell and several large art niches are on the curved wall behind it.

This curved wall is also the interior wall for the master bedroom and its supporting spaces. The sleep space itself is substantial, measuring 14 feet nine inches by 16 feet six inches. It takes on even more space, bending to a relaxing sitting area, where one might curl up with a good book before turning in.

These spaces are flanked by a well-sized walk-in closet and luxuriously appointed ensuite. The ensuite stands outs with custom lacquered vanities, super white quartzite counters, ledges and backsplash, a free-standing tub, and shower with an Aquabrass rain shower head with chronotherapy lighting, and four polished chrome body massaging sprays.

Three secondary bedrooms are on the second level, each coming with a generously proportioned walk-in closet. One has an ensuite and the other two split use of a bathroom in a Jack and Jill format.

The laundry room is on the second level and includes two stacked front load Whirlpool steam washers and dryers, built-in shelves, a sink, and plenty of counter space.

The other bedrooms — a guest room and a space dubbed as the nanny suite — are in the developed basement.

Also in the basement is a gym with cork flooring that connects to a bathroom with a steam shower, along with a game area, sitting area and a bar.
