A STEP ABOVE AT AUBURN RISE

Jackson’s striking social hub

- JOSH SKAPIN

A well-designed condo can sometimes make us forget that we’re not standing in a larger style of home.

When this happens, perhaps the most rewarding space to channel a duplex or single-family model is the kitchen. The home’s social core.

Such is the case with the Jackson show suite, displayed at Auburn Rise.

The eight-foot-nine-inch-by-13foot-three-inch L-shaped cooking space not only nears the size of some kitchens in larger segments, but displays features reminiscent of a move-up model, too.

Particularly, as presented in the show suite, the upgraded wall oven package. Not a common item in apartment-style condos, but it elevates the space and could be beneficial for adding to its resale value.

The microwave is part of the kitchen wall, as well, sitting above the oven. The appliances are all stainless steel and also show an eye-catching chimney-style hood fan. Behind the hood fan and flanking cabinets is a striking fullheight Euro Glass tile backsplash.

The ample selection of cabinets provide plenty of space for organizing pots and pans and have softclose doors and drawers.

Other key kitchen features include the handy storage of its spacious corner pantry, along with a central quartz island with a sink and extended eating bar that comfortably seats three people.

Auburn Rise in the southeast community of Auburn Bay is the first condo development by Logel Homes, a new brand through the same people that are behind Cardel Lifestyles, which was named Multi-Family Builder of the Year at the 2017 Canadian Home Builders’ Association- Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing.

Construction on the first building at Auburn Rise is underway and sales are open on the second building.

Part of what makes the development a draw are the conveniences surrounding its site. It provides quick access to a 17-hectare fresh- water lake and sits across the street from Auburn Station, a large commercial development anchored by a Co-op grocery store.

The Jackson is a 897-square-foot floor plan with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

It has a 78-square-foot patio, except when on the main floor, which is where this space extends to 189 square feet.

In an area that’s both open-concept and bright, the kitchen connects to both a dining area just off the entrance and a great room along the exterior wall.

With airy nine-foot ceilings, the condo is designed to circulate the natural light pulled in from eightfoot sliding glass doors and a wellsized transom window above it.

The bedrooms are on opposite ends of the great room, providing a privacy buffer between the two sleep spaces.

This split design is ideal for several living arrangements, including roommates, an owner and rental tenant, and couple with a guest room.

The larger bedroom is a generous 11 feet by 11 feet four inches and links to its ensuite by a walkthrough closet with built- in shelves and drawers. Its ensuite is eye-catching with dual vanities and a shower with tile.

The second bedroom has a spacious wall closet and sits just a few steps from a full bathroom.

An enclosed room just off the entrance to the condo is multipurpose, with a stacked front-load washer and dryer and useful storage space for tucking away seasonal items, too.
