ART ADDS AUTHENTIC TOUCH

Hamelin debuts Baywest program

- JOSH SKAPIN

While the Hamelin show home debuts Baywest Homes’ new endeavour featuring the work of local artists, this isn’t the only way it proves to be an eye-catching treat.

The builder has rolled out its emerging artists program, with the upscale model in Cranston’s Riverstone presenting the first example of the benefits it provides.

Its intentions are twofold: Artists looking for exposure get a new, high-traffic platform, and at the same time, the builder can stage its show homes in a selection of original artwork, giving the spaces a more authentic feel.

Artists will submit paintings and drawings for consideration and, if selected, Baywest will buy and feature the art in its show home. Artists may contact the builder for further details.

As seen in the Hamelin, the program hits the mark. House hunting is an emotional experience, and using paintings and drawings from up-and-coming local artists helps set a genuine, personable tone.

The house is a 2,836-squarefoot, single-family model with a front-attached three-car garage.

Another feature that helps the show home stand tall is in the optional developed basement. A climbing wall — included for presentation purposes only — is a fun element, giving potential buyers another thing to think about when considering what they can do for an in-home workout.

The basement also boasts a large rec area, walk-up bar, bedrooms and a bathroom.

On the main level, visual interest is abundant. Eyes will be drawn to the sitting area along the rear wall. It’s a sunken 17 foot by 14 foot six inch great room that boasts soaring ceilings and a gas fireplace in polished black ceramic tile.

While the main floor is an openconcept design, a luxurious custom metal screen, powder-coated in black, provides separation between the great room and dining area. This screen is used in the master bedroom and large secondfloor bonus room, as well.

In the centrally located kitchen, the over-sized island with a sink is the main dish. It’s a substantial space for preparing meals and a surefire gathering spot for family and visitors, including seating for snacking and socializing, too.

The rest of the kitchen features are along a single wall, including elegant stainless steel appliances such as a chimney-style hood fan and two wall ovens. A welldesigned butler’s pantry with shelves, cabinets and counter space links the kitchen to a spacious mud room, which accesses the garage.

The home includes a handy flex room, but it doesn’t take up valuable square footage from the primary spaces on the main level. Instead, it’s on a partial level that’s accessed from the staircase to the second storey of the home.
