Killarney’s inherent charm provides backdrop for new, upscale townhomes

- JOSH SKAPIN

People in the market for a townhome with upscale finishings and welcoming spaces in a well-connected location are finding a fit with the Killarney Townes.

The infill development by Street-Side Developments in the historic Killarney neighbourhood is now selling into its third of five buildings and recently unveiled a new show home that potential buyers can explore.

StreetSide is also in various stages of sales and construction on multi-family developments in Redstone, Evanston, Silverado, Cranston and West Springs.

On its Killarney site, “each building is designed to appear as one large infill home, meticulously crafted to integrate seamlessly into the surrounding community,” says Kimberley Orr, senior marketing co-ordinator for StreetSide Developments.

They’re a combination of Craftsman and Tudor architectural designs featuring stucco, battens and stone accents. The structure of all five buildings is complete and quick possession opportunities are available on townhomes in the first building.

Eleven of the 20 total townhomes are now sold and prices on the remaining homes start from the $570,000s, before the tax. The floor plans range from 1,721 to 1,832 square feet and are available in one of two designer colour palettes.

“These homes do not disappoint,” says Orr. “With high-end, luxurious finishings expected in infill designs including quartz countertops, upgraded stainless steel appliances, painted ceilings, gas fireplaces, expansive master bedrooms and spa-inspired ensuites just to name a few.”

Its latest show home, the Alba, is no exception.

At 1,832 square feet, it’s the largest floor plan in the development. The home has three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms with a drive-under garage and driveway.

“The Alba was designed for those seeking luxury and space,” says Orr.

“The main floor is an open concept design with nine-foot ceilings, gourmet kitchen and gas fireplace in the great room.”

The kitchen boasts a chimneystyle hood fan and cabinets with white maple shaker doors. Other than oversized tile in the foyer, floors on the main level are luxury vinyl plank.

There’s also a loft master bedroom with vaulted ceilings and sitting area, spa-inspired five-piece ensuite, spacious walk-in closet and private balcony.

The location is another key part of what makes this development a draw. Killarney, which has been part of the Calgary landscape since 1910, sits near important arteries and appealing places to shop and dine.

“Buyers are drawn to the inherent charm of Killarney with its mixture of contemporary and character homes that can only be found in older neighbourhoods,” says Orr.

“Killarney is inner-city living at its finest and perfect for those who want a quick commute to downtown but covet the peacefulness of mature tree-lined streets and a sense of community.”

The neighbourhood has a community association complex with a skating rink and park, and is said to be a five-minute drive to downtown Calgary.

It’s an even shorter drive to a commercial development anchored by a Safeway on 34th Avenue S.W. and amenities in the nearby community of Marda Loop.

The new show home at the Killarney Townes is open 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, or by appointment.
