Jayman, Hopewell on top in Readers’ Choice Awards

- JOSH SKAPIN

Jayman Built landed top honours in two builder categories and a community by Hopewell Residential extended its winning streak in a recent set of awards based on survey results.

The Readers’ Choice Awards through the Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun cover a range of segments, including Food and Drink, Arts and Entertainment, Automotive, Education/Career, Shopping and Services, Health, Fitness and Leisure, along with Home Improvement and Communities.

Responses to an online survey determine the businesses that are named gold winners and secondary winners in each category.

Jayman Built — which is active in a range of home styles — was crowned Gold Winner for both the Single-Family and Multi-Family Builder categories.

“We understand that when Albertans choose Jayman Built, they are choosing to share their family, their lives and their future with us,” said Jay Westman, president/ chairman and CEO of Jayman Built, in a news release. “At Jayman, we are constantly seeking new ways to improve the customer experience and offer home designs and options that reflect the way people live today.

“We are thrilled that Calgarians are recognizing that we truly care about them, and we are honoured to receive this award,” he added.

Jayman currently builds in 14 Calgary and area communities. The company offers apartmentstyle condos, town houses, duplexes, laned, and front-drive singlefamily homes.

“Customer service is part of our culture throughout the entire organization, and is foundational behind our decisions,” says Westman. “It makes delivering the pinnacle of customer service very easy as it becomes second nature.”

In the New Community category, the Gold Award recipient was Mahogany by Hopewell Residential. This is the third consecutive year that the lake community in southeast Calgary took home the Readers’ Choice honour.

Hopewell’s marketing manager Nicole McLaws says the developer is proud to see Mahogany recognized once again.

“Mahogany has also been named Community of the Year on the local, provincial and national levels, and we couldn’t be more proud of the accolades,” says McLaws. “At Hopewell, we believe Mahogany is an award-winning community because it’s a beautifully planned community that truly offers a home for every lifestyle and budget.”

“From the upscale architecture, to the attractive streetscapes, to the four- season lake lifestyle, there’s so much to appreciate in Mahogany,” she adds. “Residents love the neighbourly atmosphere, and the care and attention to detail that has been put into every aspect of the community. It’s successful because people love living there and it’s easy to see why.”

Calbridge Homes was also in the spotlight in multiple Readers’ Choice categories. It was named secondary winner for both the Single-Family and Multi-Family builder segments.

“We really work hard to focus on the quality of our homes but equally important, if not more so, are our relationships with our customers and their families and our commitment to Calgary,” says Calbridge president and CFO Bev Higham-Linehan.

“We know that buying a home is one of the most important purchases of your life, and we really strive to ensure that it’s a positive and memorable experience for ev- eryone who chooses us.”

The company offers front-drive and laned single-family homes, duplexes, villas, and town houses. Calbridge builds in 10 Calgary and area communities.

“Whether that be the home designs, their buying experience as a whole or something else that is resonating with people, knowing that this recognition is coming from our fellow Calgarians really is an honour,” adds Higham-Linehan.

Broadview Homes was also named a secondary winner for the Single-Family Builder category, and Cardel Lifestyles was a secondary winner on the MultiFamily Builder side.

Broadview builds front-drive and laned single-family homes and duplexes and is part of the builder group in eight Calgary and area communities.

Cardel Lifestyles offers both apartment-style condos and town houses, with developments in various stages of sales and construc- tion on five sites in the city. Earlier in 2017, Cardel Lifestyles was named Multi-Family Builder of the Year at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing and Safety Leadership Awards.

For the New Community segment, secondary winners were Fireside in Cochrane by La Vita Land, and Harmony in Springbank by Bordeaux Developments and Qualico Communities.

Fireside — which is 50 per cent complete — boasts 13 hectares (32 acres) of parks and pathways, a new school, and commercial development dubbed the Embers.

Harmony is planned for two connected lakes, a golf course, future 14.5-hectare village core with retail amenities and more than 25 kilometres in pathways. It won both New Community of the Year and Community of the Year Calgary Region at the Calgary Region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards in early 2017.
