SPACIOUS STYLE

The Tempo in Carrington

- CLAIRE YOUNG

The Tempo picks up the pace on style and livability, bringing a splitlevel home to a duplex format.

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1,356-square-foot home blends the spacious great room with the privacy of separated living spaces.

The main floor is set for entertaining. The spacious foyer has space to greet friends and stow their coats in a large closet. The great room then opens up with a grand open-to-above that adds to its visual impact. The space is gracious with light from windows above adding to the airiness.

The great room is open to the dining area and kitchen that are set in the back half of the main floor, with an island oriented to face the dining area. The counter and wall cabinetry wrap along the side wall, where the fridge and range are located, then turns in an “L” along the back wall, with a window to the back yard above the sink. While the main working part of the kitchen is open, around a corner and mainly out of view is a tech desk, set for recharging electronics, and a large walk-in pantry.

The island provides an extended ledge for family or guests to draw up a stool for a chat while the host is cooking.

A stub wall near the dining table diverts gusts of cold air when coming inside from the back yard and deck.

Near the front door is a short set of stairs that leads to the secondary bedroom that looks out the front of the home, along with the main bathroom. This division provides a nice sense of privacy that would be

appreciated by a teen, roommate or house guest. A turn to the right leads up a short flight of stairs to the top floor, where the hallway overlooks the great room to one side and provides access to the upstairs laundry to the other.

At the back of the home is the master bedroom, a generous room at 10 feet by almost 14 feet. A pocket door to one side opens to the ensuite and the walk-in closet. The bathroom offers plenty of room, featuring a two-sink vanity, a soaker tub and a large shower.

In the fully developed basement, a small but mighty option exists for a home gym in what might otherwise be used as a storage room. Many avid runners find low ceilings a challenge for indoor running on treadmills. Here, the space below the secondary bedroom provides a storey and a half height above for the tallest of run- ners. The show home displays a bike training set up, which can involve the same desire for max headroom.

Also in the show suite’s developed basement are a rec room, bedroom, den, bathroom and storage.
