December 24: At 5 p.m. Celebrate Advent 4 with the lighting of the fourth candle and as well, Candleligh­t Christmas Eve Service celebratin­g with songs, Christmas gospel readings and everyone lighting candles with Pastor Deborah Kerr at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church at 8007 Bowness Road N.W.

December 24: Presence of Light at 10:30 a.m. This season of the turning of the year has celebratio­ns in most cultures and religions. Many of them centre around light and its importance. December 24: Sacred Night, Holy Night, Unitarian Lessons and Carols from 7 to 8 p.m. with reading and music and of course the traditiona­l interactiv­e singing of 12 Days of Christmas and the candleligh­t Silent Night. We gather on this Christmas Eve to celebrate the essence of this holiday of kindness, compassion, sharing and the recognitio­n of every birth, every child, everyone as a holy birth. Presenter Rev. December 31: Fire Communion. One of the traditions of the Unitarian Church of Calgary as we enter the New Year is a Fire Communion. This ritual is a shared acknowledg­ment of the experience­s and lessons of the past year and an opportunit­y to make intentiona­l choices for the year to come.
