Mahogany leads growth again for single-family homes
Southeast Calgary community had 465 permit applications in 2017, city says
For the fourth consecutive year, a lake community in southeast Calgary has paced all ends of the city in demand for new single-family homes.
Between Jan. 1 and Dec. 21, companies building in Mahogany by Hopewell Residential totalled 465 applications for permits to build single-family homes, says the city’s planning and development department. Mahogany’s tally was the most of any community in Calgary during this time.
The community has led the city in single-family building permit applications every year since 2014. It finished 2016 with 352 on the books.
“Mahogany’s standing as Calgary’s best-selling community four years in a row now is simply a testament to its unparalleled appeal,” says Scott Hamilton, Hopewell’s director of marketing and customer experience.
“People love living there and for good reason: it’s got the city’s most outstanding new community amenities, including the city’s largest freshwater lake, alongside the city’s most desirable homes.”
Mahogany features a 25-hectare lake, 22 kilometres in pathways, and 30 hectares of naturalized wetlands. Earlier this year it opened a new commercial development, anchored by a Sobeys grocery store.
“When buyers are looking at securing their long-term house investment in an outstanding place to live, there is simply no comparison among new communities in Calgary,” Hamilton says. “Besides all of that, it has a homeowners’ association that is the envy of neighbourhoods across the city, providing residents an incredible community feel and social connectivity from the moment they move in.
“The incredible difference in Mahogany is having all of these things translate across every home in Mahogany, from the most affordable condo, to the most expensive lakefront estate home opportunity.”
Builders in the community include Calbridge Homes, Excel Homes, Homes by Avi, Jayman Built, Morrison Homes, Hopewell, and Section23 Developments.
The community unveiled new show homes for its estate, moveup, and laned single-family homes, and executive paired homes, earlier in 2017.
Following Mahogany in applications for permits to build singlefamily homes in 2017 were two communities on the north end of the city. Livingston by Brookfield Residential had 310 and Cornerstone by Walton Development and Management had 278, says the city of Calgary’s planning and development department.
