Male junk becomes junk mail as man sent genitalia sculpture

- JURIS GRANEY

EDMONTON There’s junk mail and then there’s male junk.

Every December for the past three years, a Red Deer man, for a reason unbeknownst to him, has received an unusual package in the mail — a sculptured clay or ceramic, hand-painted, male genitalia in a tube.

And the man may not be the only victim.

Red Deer RCMP Const. Derek Turner said the offending packages include a note, the contents of which police were not willing to divulge, except to say that the person who reported it to Mounties knows he has been targeted because of what the notes say.

“There’s messaging there to show that it was specifically for the person that it’s been sent to,” Turner said.

“We know that other people were targeted just from surveillance photos showing more than one similar type package.

“This is not an ordinary situation, for sure.”

Surveillance footage captured from a Red Deer grocery store Dec. 8 was released Friday by RCMP and shows a man and a woman.

The suspects have more than one package of a similar shape and size. The tubes measure about 45 centimetres long and around eight centimetres in diameter. The sculpture inside may not be representative of the package, Turner said.

The suspects could face criminal harassment charges, with penalties that range from six months in jail and up to a $2,000 fine for a summary offence or up to 10 years in prison if deemed an indictable offence.

Anyone who can identify the pair should call Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
