5 REASONS COCHRANE’S ON UPSWING

-

1

Apartment construction soars.

The town had shovels turn for 136 apartments last year, after 11 broke ground in 2016, says Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

2

Growth for townhomes and duplexes, too.

There were nearly 100 more construction starts on townhomes in Cochrane in 2017 than a year earlier, says CMHC. Builders broke ground for 152 units last year, up from 55 in 2016. For duplexes, there were 128 units, rising from 90 a year earlier.

3

Resale of attached homes rise

The Calgary Real Estate Board says 226 attached homes — a figure reflecting townhomes and duplexes — were sold through the resale market in Cochrane last year. A year earlier, there were 190 sales in the segment. The average price for these homes was $335,632 in 2017, down nine per cent year over year.

4

Apartment resale repeats

Just as many apartments changed hands in Cochrane last year than in 2016, says CREB. Both years ended with new owners for 51 of these units. Last year, the average price of these apartments was $218,403 and the median price was $212,000.

5

New inventory levels steady

Last year ended with eight duplexes, 15 townhomes, and four apartments that were constructed and unabsorbed in Cochrane, says CMHC. In 2016, there were the same number of apartments but 10 duplexes and 12 townhomes.
