Building a Legacy of living in an award-winning community

- JOSH SKAPIN

People in the market for a townhome have new reasons for visiting the community of Legacy.

Separate developments in the southeast Calgary community by Stepper Homes and Trico Homes are showcasing full-scale examples of what each has to offer. There are three show homes at Stepper’s development and two for Trico’s.

Legacy is the reigning back-toback winner of the Community of the Year-City of Calgary award at the Calgary Region SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards. It’s master-planned by WestCreek Developments and accessed off 210th Avenue S.E.

Legacy made some appealing additions in 2017, including the launch of a community garden and bus stops that take passengers to the commercial development in nearby Walden and the Shawnessy train station.

Stepper’s development — dubbed the Legacy Townhome Collection — starts from $345,900, including GST.

It’s a fee- simple site, which means, unlike conventional townhomes with condo fees, the buyer owns and is responsible for the exterior of the home and the land it sits on. While its show homes can be toured starting Jan. 20, a grand opening event is planned for Feb. 10.

This development offers a selection of three two-storey floors plans, and has one show home for each. They’re the 1,295-squarefoot Arden, the 1,297-square-foot Edwards and the 1,359-squarefoot McKinney. Each had a double detached garage.

“We love these townhome models in Legacy because they offer more space, which is great for firsttime homebuyers and downsizers alike,” says Emily Smith, marketing manager for Stepper Homes.

“They are really bright, inside and out,” she adds. “Customers use our popular Home Album for interior selections, so they get a gorgeous home with great standards.

“These homes will also continue to have the beautiful architectural standards that Legacy is known for. The fenced backyard makes these homes very pet friendly, but these homes are also on the doorstep of all the walkways in the community.”

The development is located around the corner from a commercial area in the community — set to include businesses such as a Petro-Canada gas station, Tim Hortons and Little Caesars — that broke ground for construction in the second half of 2017.

Trico Homes’ site is a conventional townhome development named Legacy Commons. Its show homes were open starting last weekend and a grand opening launch will be held Jan. 27. The show homes both present the Eden floor plan, with one displaying the two-bedroom orientation and the other with three bedrooms.

Trico’s multi-family sales and business development manager Nada Courtliff describes these show homes as having “a lot of natural light,” adding, “It’s a really functional layout.”

As a whole, townhomes at Legacy Commons are three storeys, have a two-car tandem garage, and range from 1,141 to 1,178 square feet. It will build out to 139 units, with prices starting in the low $270,000s, before GST.

The development will be built around a commercial complex that Trico is also developing, called Legacy Village, expected to break ground this spring.

Fencing will surround the commercial site with an opening in the fence to provide direct walking access for residents of Legacy Commons.
