Inferno set to play host to Furies on big stage

-

The big stage is calling the Calgary Inferno.

They will hit the ice in The Big Smoke this weekend and get to showcase their wares on national TV.

Indeed, Sunday’s contest against the host Toronto Furies goes live on Sportsnet West (11 a.m.), as part of the two-game set vs. the squad from T.O.

The Inferno are looking to build on last weekend’s momentum when they visit the Furies on Saturday (5 p.m.) and Sunday.

The Calgary club enjoyed a successful 2-0 sweep of China’s Vanke Rays on home ice, winning last Saturday’s game 10-3 and last Sunday’s tilt 4-0.

That’s left the Inferno in third place in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League standings, just one point behind Les Canadiennes de Montreal in first place and China’s Kunlun Red Star in second with games at hand.

The Inferno are 2-0-2 against the Furies this season and are 3-0-1 on the road.

The Furies are coming off a series split against Les Canadiennes, and their home record sits at 1-0-3. Currently, the Furies are sitting in sixth in the league standings and will be looking for a couple of big wins on home ice.

On offence, the Inferno’s Brittany Esposito is tied for ninth spot in league scoring with Carolyn Prevost of the Furies. Both boast 17 points apiece.

Inferno goaltender Lindsey Post played in this past Sunday’s game earning her second shutout of the season, while making 31 saves. She has an overall save percentage of .925 on the season. Veteran netminder Delayne Brian is also back in the Calgary team’s lineup.

“We had a strong come back after a shaky (previous ) weekend against Montreal,” Post said.
