Megan Follows back on TV
Canadian actress Megan Follows has joined the cast of the Calgary-shot cult hit Wynonna Earp, playing the estranged mother of the titular character in a recurring role.
Follows, who is probably still best known for playing Anne Shirley in Anne of Green Gables in the 1980s, has joined the cast for Season 3 of the series.
She will play the mysterious Michelle Earp, a.k.a. “Mama” Earp, who was revealed to be alive at the end of Season 2.
Season 3 is currently being shot in Calgary and surrounding areas.
Michelle Earp is mother to Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) and Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley,).
She was believed to have abandoned her daughters when they were young and was often referenced, although never seen, in the series. The revelation that Mama Earp would make an appearance in Season 3 spurred much speculation about who would play the role.
In Season 2, Wynonna Earp gave birth to a baby girl named Alice Michele, but sent her away due to the dangers associated with the Earp name.
In the modern-western series, Wynonna and her sister are forced to battle demons as part of a curse that dates back to her gunfighting ancestor, Wyatt.
So, just in case you weren’t feeling old enough this week, that means our Anne is officially playing a grandmother.
The Toronto-born actress is also known for playing the scheming Catherine de Médici from 2013 to 2017 on the historical CW drama, Reign.
She is also no stranger to the Alberta TV industry, having had a recurring role on the long-running Calgary-based series Heartland as Lily Borden, Ty Borden’s recovering alcoholic mother who also happened to become a grandmother this season.
Follows is also scheduled to appear at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo this year, which runs from April 26 to 29 at Calgary Stampede Park.
Season 3 of Wynonna Earp is scheduled to air in the summer.
