LIVINGSTON, EVANSTON

High demand for new homes

- JOSH SKAPIN

Two communities on the north end of Calgary are leading the city in demand for new homes early in 2018.

Livingston and Evanston were the busiest communities in Calgary when it came to applications for permits to build homes last month, says the city’s planning and development department.

Brookfield Residential’s Livingston community led the way with 32 applications, all singlefamily homes, followed by Evanston by Qualico Communities with 27, says the city. Evanston had 25 that were of the singlefamily variety and two for townhomes.

The southeast Calgary community of Walden by Genstar Development Co. was next with 25 residential building permit applications.

In total, the city had 349 of these applications in January, an increase from the 241 filed during the same month a year ago.

“It has been amazing to see the strong interest in Livingston continuing into 2018,” says Gisele Danis, Brookfield’s vice-president of marketing and communications, Alberta.

“There are now more than 160 families living in this community and it’s clear they’ve been sharing their positive community impressions with friends and family — Livingston has the highest referral rate in any Brookfield Residential community.”

Livingston’s builder group is comprised of Morrison Homes, Jayman Built, Homes by Avi, Daytona Homes, Cedarglen Homes, Avi Urban, and Brookfield.

The community straddles Centre Street, west of Deerfoot Trail. The site measures 519 hectares, making it about one-third of the size of Okotoks. It formally launched with its first show home parade in March of last year.

Evanston is apart of the city’s Symons Valley corridor, boasting many of the characteristics of a mature community.

“Evanston is almost built to completion,” says Laura Field, marketing co-ordinator for Qualico. “People love that in Evanston, you get to build new, but you have all the amenities of an established community. There are two schools, an already developed commercial centre, demand is high as this is consumers’ last chance to buy in Evanston.”

Its builders are Trico Homes, Sterling Homes, Pacesetter by Sterling Homes, NuVista Homes, Broadview Homes, Jayman, Brookfield, Partners Development Group, and Streetside Developments.
