DOWNSIZING IN STYLE
No compromises in Savannah
People looking for fewer stairs and less maintenance can still find something that feels like a singlefamily home.
One such example is a bungalow villa, displayed as a show home at the Clearbrook Meadows of Fireside, a development by Calbridge Homes in Cochrane that features a charming Craftsman exterior elevation.
Having all of the daily necessities on one level and the freedom to travel for extended periods of time without needing to worry about upkeep is a common target for empty nesters.
These conveniences join qualities commonly seen in a move-up single-family home in the Savannah. The floor plan is 1,152 square feet above grade, and has a front attached two-car garage. There’s also a developed lower level, which adds 443 square feet of space.
For people downsizing, it’s important that the ability to entertain isn’t compromised. Having friends over for a glass of wine, their adult children over for dinner, and hosting grandchildren for the weekend are all key considerations that the builder addresses in this functional home.
First of all, there’s plenty of space to share a meal. The central dining area reaches 13 feet two inches by nine feet, working just as well for larger get-togethers as it would supporting a casual Wednesday night dinner for two.
The show home is staged with a dinner table with six chairs, but it could comfortably seat eight.
For overflow seating, there’s also the kitchen. At its spacious island, there’s an extended eating bar with seating for four people. It’s easy to also imagine the eating bar as a place where grandchildren can sit as they help stir the baking mix, or some other fun kitchen activity.
The kitchen also features a high volume of cabinets, full-height backsplash, stainless steel appliances and a pantry.
One of the most visually striking spaces on the main floor is the great room. Substantial rearfacing windows looking out of to scenic ranch land and a vaulted ceiling complemented by beams is an attention-getting combination.
The balance of that rear-facing wall — with equally impressive sight lines — is the master bedroom. It boasts a tray-style ceiling design and connects to both an ensuite and walk-in closet through the same point of access.
The ensuite has a well-sized shower with a glass door, and dual vanities under a full-width mirror and across from a tub.
While the most-used spaces are on the main level, the developed lower level is handy when needed. The standard version has a media area, bedroom, and full bathroom. With the upgrades displayed in the show home, there’s a wet bar, third bedroom, and hobby room, too.
The hobby room can be used for a variety of purposes, but is demonstrated as a sewing space.
Fireside is a master-planned community by La Vita Land. It emphasizes appealing spaces in which to spend time outdoors with large parks and long stretches of pathways. The community has a commercial complex called the Embers and late last year welcomed a school for students from kindergarten to Grade 8.
