City shouldn’t pursue 2026 Games
It is complete madness for city council to even consider making a bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics, based on the economic conditions in the province.
Calgary did a super job for the 1988 Winter Olympics. Why do we have to bid for a repeat performance?
The International Olympic Committee came to town recently to state that our facilities looked fine, only because other cities were pulling the rip cord on this bidding process. Sion, Switzerland, plans to hold a referendum on its bid, leaving only Sapporo, Japan, and Stockholm, Sweden, in the running.
It is time for council to have a reality check and withdraw our bid as well.
