Stampede dream home a dream exhibition for one artist
Artists are now able to toss their Stetson in the ring for a shot at having their work showcased in a home that often sees more than 100,000 people over a 10-day span.
Homes by Avi is welcoming submissions for its 2018 Stampede Rotary Dream Home Artist Project. Artists interested in participating are asked to submit five to six photos of their work before the deadline of 5 p.m. on March 15. Entry details are on the builder’s website homesbyavi.com
The winner — selected by a panel of judges — will have their work displayed in their year’s Stampede Rotary Dream Home by Homes by Avi, which will be available to be toured at Stampede Park throughout the Calgary Stampede. They ’ll be asked to produce between 30 and 40 pieces, varying in size.
Homes by Avi picks a different theme for the home each year, with this year’s set for mid-century chic.
“We always hope to find an aspiring artist that is excited to be a part of the project and complements the decor of the home," says Julie Punter, manager of show home selections and presentation at Homes by Avi.
“At the same time, we feel privileged providing a platform for them to display their art to the world,” she adds.
“Every year we can’t wait to see the submissions we receive and the new undiscovered talent that is out there.”
This year’s home is a 2,438-square-foot floor plan that will be later moved to a lot in the southeast Calgary community of Walden by Genstar Development Co.
Among its features are a private retreat off the master bedroom and a wine room adjacent to the kitchen. It will boast black and gold accents, along with an assortment of interesting textures and patterns.
Last year’s Stampede Dream Home was moved to the northwest community of Carrington, also by Genstar. John F. Gerrard’s artwork was displayed in that home.
“It’s a great opportunity to get your work in front of such a variety of demographics. I had a great time curating and the exposure was worth it,” says Gerrard. “Being a part of the Dream Home Artist Project has been very rewarding and it’s flattering to hear how the work impacted people.”
