New information about a 2014 suspicious death in the city’s northeast has prompted police to deem it a homicide.

And police have released a CCTV image from a nearby residence showing a person they think can help shed some light on the case.

Just after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, the frozen body of a man was found by a passerby near the Marlborough Park Community Centre on Madigan Drive N.E.

“Initial indicators were unclear as to whether or not the man’s death was a homicide,” said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the CPS homicide unit. But he said subsequent reports revealed the victim, identified as 41-year-old Douglas Miller, died under suspicious circumstances.

Recent developments in the case had homicide investigators confident that Miller’s death was indeed criminal in nature.

In order to preserve what few investigative leads detectives have in the case, they ’ve declined to reveal the manner of Miller’s death.

Investigators believe Miller left his Marlborough Park home at 8 p.m. on Nov. 28, the day before his body was found.

Schiavetta said they believe his body lay on the ground, covered in snow, for roughly 16 hours before it was discovered.

In their hopes to unearth leads in the case, police have released a CCTV image of an individual, captured at 9:17 p.m. on Nov. 28, that they hope has information on Miller’s death. Police currently have no suspects or persons of interest in the case.

Despite Miller’s death occurring more than three years ago, Schiavetta said detectives never stopped working on the case.

“No matter if this happened 20 years ago or five years ago, if it’s active, we want to pursue all investigative leads to bring closure to the family,” he said.

“That’s who we’re working for.”
