KINGSLEY GOES WITH THE FLOW
Focus is on privacy, convenience
In home design, an emphasis on convenience can go a long way.
Those subtle but valued shortcuts that make life a little easier are part of what makes the Kingsley a prize. The 2,147-square-foot single-family home with a front attached two-car garage by NuVista Homes is now displayed as a show home in scenic Crestmont West by Qualico Communities.
This is an extension to the existing southwest Calgary community of Crestmont, which is by the same developer. Engaging outdoor spaces are a focus in the plan for Crestmont West, including a 1.52-hectare central park and 1.18-hectare pond surrounded by 2.62 hectares of parks. There’s also a 5.22-hectare environmental reserve.
Trico Homes, Sterling Homes and Broadview Homes build in this community, as well.
With the Kingsley, considerate, functional touches are featured on multiple levels, including the benefit of direct access.
The walk-through pantry from the kitchen and optional walkthrough laundry room off the master bedroom are prime examples.
In both cases, this creates a quick and easy path. The laundry room, which includes a front-load washer and dryer, connects to the walk-in closet through a closing door. As a result, that fresh load of laundry is only a few steps from being put away.
Likewise with the home’s large walk-through pantry that links to a mud room with built-in benches — and then to the attached garage.
When carrying bags of groceries in from the car, it isn’t a winding walk, but a straight line to where they need to be put away.
The kitchen is an L-shaped format with an island that has a sink and extended eating bar with seating for three people.
It features stainless steel appliances, including a wall oven and chimney-style hood fan, and an eye-catching full-height tile backsplash. The backsplash is dark blue and gold, which is a consistent theme throughout the show home.
Another form of convenience is versatility. This is where the main floor flex room comes in.
The nine-foot, two-inch by ninefoot, 10-inch space with a window is located just off the foyer. In the show home, it’s staged with a table and chairs next to a shelving unit. But when determining its use, the space is full of potential. It fits the needs of someone who needs a home office, yoga or art studio — even a child’s play room.
Speaking of the foyer, the home is designed for privacy. The abovementioned flex room blocks views from the front door to the more private areas of the main floor, such as the open-concept kitchen, great room and dining area.
The great room is a welcoming 13-foot by 15-foot, eight-inch space with a large window that looks into the backyard. It has a towering gas fireplace flanked by built-in shelves as its focal point.
On the second floor, the master bedroom and ensuite cover the rear-facing wall. Its elegant ensuite boasts dual vanities under a full-width mirror, deep soaker tub, and glass-encased shower.
The two secondary bedrooms sit side-by-side on the opposite end of the main floor. They ’re identical in size, making it easy to decide which child gets which room.
A front-facing bonus room is adjacent to these bedrooms, and it’s easy to imagine family gathering in this space to watch television, spread out a school science project, or just chat, before heading to bed.
The show home presents a developed basement with a spacious rec area, fourth bedroom, and third full bathroom.
