Weekly green Bin piCkup not required

-

Last week, when I drove my daughter to school, we counted green bins on their pickup day in our neighbourhood. They seemed to average about one per block. I checked a couple, and they were one-fifth full.

We put ours out, about half full, every second week. Obviously, without lawns and gardens, weekly pickup in winter is unwarranted. If you happen to be one of the few who needs weekly green bin pickup, ask your neighbour, on either side, to borrow theirs.

Driving the truck around is a waste of money and one more large diesel vehicle that doesn’t need to be on the road. If green bin use increases in winter, we can always switch back.

Drop green bin pickup to every second week and do not raise black bin fees with the savings.
