The Calgary Chamber of Commerce has appointed a globetrotting business leader to head the agency.

On Tuesday, the chamber announced Sandip Lalli will become its new president and CEO on April 10, after its previous boss, Adam Legge, left last October to become director of Global Business Futures Initiative at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business.

According to a news release from the chamber, Lalli’s business career has spanned from Alberta to Singapore and back, and she has held senior and executive roles with international corporations in agriculture, financial markets, and oil and gas.

Her most recent post was president and chief executive of Keystone Excavating Ltd., which was forced to close its doors last year amid Alberta’s tumultuous downturn.

“Having been a business leader in Calgary for the past 12 years, plus many internationally, I am excited to bring the benefits of my experience and skills to the position of president and chief executive officer with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce,” Lalli said in a statement.

Phil Roberts, chair of the chamber’s board of directors, said Lalli’s experience will be a boon for the agency that supports and advocates for local business.

“Sandip’s breadth of business experience in multiple industries in Alberta will be an asset to the chamber and Calgary’s business community.

“She is well-positioned to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities ahead for Calgary businesses,” he said.

“The chamber is excited to be embarking on this next phase of our 127-year history, with an experienced and dynamic new chief executive officer.

“Sandip brings a wealth of global knowledge and fresh perspectives that will help the chamber continue to grow and evolve in its purpose to serve business in Calgary.”

Lalli’s predecessor had held the post since 2010.
