According to a statement from the ski resort, the man was on a beginner trail named Out Rider and struck a tree on the side of the run.

The skier was wearing a helmet and conditions on the mountain were sunny with no new snow overnight, resort officials say.

“Our hearts go out to the family,” Panorama Mountain Resort CEO and president Steve Paccagnan said in a statement.

“This is a tragic accident and we are doing everything we can to assist family members during this very difficult time. Our community is deeply saddened by this event and I want to thank the entire response team for their speed, emergency care and professionalism.”

Columbia Valley RCMP said in a statement they were advised at 3 p.m. on Monday that a 23-yearold Calgary resident had died in hospital from injuries sustained while skiing.

Mounties confirmed that the man had been skiing on a groomed run within the ski area boundaries with his family when he struck a tree and was fatally injured.

“The Columbia Valley RCMP continue to assist the B.C. Coroner’s Service with their investigation into the incident and the man’s death,” RCMP said.

“RCMP Victim Services have been engaged to provide support to the family.”
