Students drew attention to guns

-

Re: “Facts, not emotion, on gun control,” Letter, March 17. Firstly, I think we all realize that facts inform the firearms crime debate, not emotions.

Secondly, if a group of students decides to show solidarity with their peers involved in the Parkland, Fla., tragedy, why does the letter writer have to find fault in that, stating that it will have no impact on America?

Why make these young people feel as though they have wasted their time?

They did something that showed they were paying attention.

They did something that showed they cared. And they showed emotion.

Maybe the walkout will spark an interest in some students, and encourage them to educate themselves in the laws surrounding guns and weapons in Canada and the U.S.

In the meantime, if the letter writer sets perfect logic aside for a moment, he might see that the students were only showing support, and leave it at that.
