They keep going and going

More Toyota and General Motors SUVs last past 320,000 kilometres than any other model of vehicle, according to the results of an updated study commissioned by iSeeCars.com.

Some 6.6 per cent of the Toyota Sequoia SUVs bought and sold during 2017 blew by that number on the odometer, the analysis found, making it the longest-lasting vehicle per the data.

Next on the top 10 list was the Ford Expedition (5.4 per cent), Chevrolet Suburban (5.2), Toyota 4Runner (4.2) and GMC Yukon XL (3.9). On average, just 1.2 per cent of the 13.5 million cars in the analysis — all of them 1981 through 2017 models, all bought and sold in the U.S. in 2017 — had clocked more than 320,000 km.

Top 10 longest-lasting vehicles (and percentage of vehicles over 320,000 km)

Toyota Sequoia (6.6)

Ford Expedition (5.4) Chevrolet Suburban (5.2) Toyota 4Runner (4.2)

GMC Yukon XL (3.9) Chevrolet Tahoe (3.8)

GMC Yukon (2.8)

Toyota Tacoma (2.6)

Toyota Avalon (2.4)

Honda Odyssey (2.4)

The only vehicles on the list that were not trucks or SUVs were the Toyota Avalon sedan and the Honda Odyssey minivan, but the company did break out the top 10 results for cars specifically, too. After the Avalon and Odyssey, the cars most likely to last past 320,000 km were the Honda Accord (2.0 per cent), the Ford Taurus (1.8), and the Toyota Sienna (1.7). Rounding out the list were the Toyota Camry, Chevy Impala, Toyota Prius, Nissan Maxima and Chrysler Pacifica.

Breaking out the pickup trucks from the list puts the Tacoma on top. Perhaps surprisingly, though, it’s followed by the Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tundra ( both at 2.2 per cent). The Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 and GMC Sierra came next, followed by the Nissan Titan and Chevrolet Colorado.

The iSeeCars.com analysis found just 0.1 per cent of vehicles make it past 480,000 km, but that some 0.3 per cent of Toyota 4Runners do. Also above that average were Toyota’s Sequoia and Tacoma, the Chevrolet Suburban and the Ford Expedition, all tied at 0.2 per cent.
