New show homes ready to be viewed

A new show home parade in Walden is presenting 10 looks at what it can offer people in the market for a new home, including what’s available on the community’s scenic ridge.

The southeast Calgary community located just east of Macleod Trail is master-planned by Genstar Development Co. A family-friendly event to celebrate the launch starts at noon Friday.

“There will be some new designs presented by the builder group to showcase some of the new things we’re offering ... in an already established community,” says Genstar’s project manager Travis Putnam.

This show home parade includes examples of the community ’s ridge estate homes, which are available from the $700,000s, front-drive single-family homes from the $500,000s, and laned single-family homes from the $300,000s. In all cases, this includes the lot and GST.

Walden will open more show homes, including duplex models, in the coming months — bringing its total to 17 — by the end of this summer.

On the ridge, California Custom Homes opens a 3,202-square-foot model called Ascent, while Arcuri presents its 2,672-square-foot Hudson floor plan. Cardel Homes is selling homes on the ridge, as well, but out of new move-up show homes that are part of the current launch.

Show homes on the ridge present the appealing opportunity this location within the community provides, says Kelly Schmalz, development manager with Genstar.

“Seeing that view of downtown and the river valley, it’s quite special,” she says, adding Walden’s ridge is more affordable than lots of this kind are typically.

Excel Homes, which opened its show homes in March, has four single-family show homes in the community. This includes two in the front-drive segment and two that are laned.

It recently opened show homes at its Walden townhome development, Holland Park, earlier this year, as well.

Its front-drive show homes include the 2,075-square foot Garnet and the 1,826-square-foot Halton, and its laned options are the 1,413-square foot Huntley and 1,466-square-foot Porter.

Also with front-drive singlefamily show homes are Homes by Avi with its 2,012-square-foot Larsson and the 2,144-square-foot Rosewood, and Cardel Homes with its 1,988-square-foot Strand and 2,048-square-foot Sereno 2.

All of the latest show homes in the community are on or near Walgrove Boulevard and Walgrove Terrace, accessed from 210th Avenue S.E.

Another benefit to the show home parade is that it’s a reason for people to revisit Walden, where outdoor features are a focus, says Putnam.

“You’ve got this new pond being built with two kilometres of walking trails around it that will have mile markers for avid runners,” he says. “There’s access to Fish Creek (Provincial) Park through out pathway systems and the regional pathway.”

Walden has also welcomed two new companies to its builder group in a separate phase of the community. Going forward, Prominent Homes has bungalows and Daytona Homes is building front-drive single-family homes in the community, as well.
