ROOM TO SPARE AT RADIUS
Spacious E2 show suite offers downsizers appealing package with all the trimmings
For people looking to downsize from a larger single-family home, one of the latest show suites to open at Radius at Bridgeland strikes the ideal balance.
Some find a sharp pullback in size and space from their twostorey home challenging, making bungalows their natural next step.
While this floor plan compares in size, layout, and specifications to an upscale single-level, singlefamily home — it also eliminates the need for maintenance, and adds an attractive lineup of on-site amenities.
The 1,321-square-foot E2 floor plan — presented in a light, warm colour scheme — is a corner unit at Radius.
This inner-city concrete building by Bucci Developments is equipped with a range of conveniences. This includes a yoga studio, spin studio, cardio room, weight-training room, and a rooftop terrace with a barbecue area, double-sided fireplace, and urban garden.
That’s also concierge, underground dog wash, underground car wash, and an area the developer dubs the building’s Spud room, which is available to customers of the online food delivery service Spud.ca
With the E2 — which has two well-sized bedrooms, a handy den, and two private balconies — downsizers aren’t compromising on the spaces they enjoyed most about their previous home.
In fact, its layout feels like a single-family design right through the front door. Rather than stepping directly into one of the social spaces, a short hallway provides separation. Its design restricts someone standing at the entrance from seeing some of the more private parts of the home, such as the great room and dining area.
Along the above mentioned hallway there’s a laundry area with a stacked front-load washer and dryer.
When it comes to gathering spaces, the central great room is a highlight. It’s above-average in size, leaving plenty of space for large pieces of furniture and the ability to circulate with ease.
The great room along with the adjacent dining area and kitchen pull in a pleasing level of sunshine through several well-sized windows.
This includes, bordering the great room, towering sliding glass doors that step out to the larger of two spacious private patios.
The other patio is accessed from the dining area.
The dining area can support large gatherings, such as holiday get-togethers with extended family. The show suite is staged with a table for six, but for special occasions, one with an extension leaf can comfortably add at least another four people.
There’s also overflow seating along the eating bar at the kitchen, where there are stools for three people. The kitchen is a functional U-shaped design, featuring an abundance of space to prepare a meal.
It’s easy to imagine grandparents using the counters to mix the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies or cinnamon buns with their grandchildren.
The kitchen also boasts a generous amount of soft-close cabinets, eye-catching open shelves, a fullheight backsplash, and stainless steel appliances, including an over the range microwave, and wine fridge.
People who want an additional space with flexibility will appreciate the den. It can be used for a variety of purposes, but is demonstrated in the show suite with a desk, showing how it can fit the needs of a home office.
The bedrooms are on opposite ends of the condo, providing a buffer between the two sleeping spaces.
In the master bedroom, the accessory spaces stand out. The walk-in closet shows an efficient built-in organizer, and the ensuite is a luxurious space to either retreat or start the day.
The stylish ensuite features dual vanities with upscale plumbing fixtures, a full-width mirror, glassencased shower and soaker tub.
Radius is conveniently located within walking distance of a wide assortment of appealing places to dine in the neighbourhood, and about a one-minute walk from 3.5-hectare Murdoch Park.
