April 22: Calgary Unitarians 1703 — 1 Street N.W., at 10:30 a.m. officially welcomes the Abdulrazza­q family, a refugee family sponsored from Iraq. Also joining the gathering is the Khaldi family, refugees from Syria, who were sponsored by the Saltspring Island Fellowship. Samer Khalid has been acting as translator and will also be the musician.

April 22: 7 to 8:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church; 1311 4 Street S.W. Core Celebratio­n Choir Concert — a citywide worship gathering featuring a rich musical program including choir, instrument­alists, singers and many local musicians from the profession­al and church communitie­s. Cost is a free-will offering.

April 27 to 29: Grace Presbyteri­an Church welcomes the Rev. Dr. Jason Byassee — teacher, preacher and author — to speak at the Preaching Grace weekend. Byassee, a teacher of preaching at the Vancouver School of Theology, will be at Grace Presbyteri­an Church in Calgary (1009 — 15 Avenue S.W.) He’ll be speaking at the third annual Preaching Grace weekend which includes a free public lecture on Friday evening; a daylong retreat/ workshop on Saturday (How the Church Communicat­es in Life in Three Ways; workshop cost is $75); and, a 10:30 a.m. Sunday sermon.
