It’s exciting to learn that Vovia is celebrating its 10th anniversary with growth averaging 30 per cent over the past three years.

Now one of Western Canada’s top-performing media and marketing intelligence agencies, for a long time it rented 5,000 square feet of space in the building owned by Karo Group on 10th Avenue S.W. But the increase in business meant an increase in staff, so president Susan Murphy found 10,000 square feet of space in Mount Royal Village.

“It’s exciting to celebrate our phenomenal growth with a new modern space we could call our own — one that embodies our team’s personality: professional, playful and collaborative,” said Murphy.

Vovia was founded by Cameron Prockiw in 2008 as a search firm specializing in SEO and paid search.

Before joining Vovia in 2014, Murphy’s career included seven years’ agency experience with Venture Communications as group account director where she successfully grew her portfolio to five times its original figure and was responsible for clients including Travel Alberta and Brookfield Residential. She worked with Safeway, Direct Energy and was responsible at the Loyalty Group for the Air Miles account with Shell and Boston Pizza.

After meeting Prockiw, she was persuaded to join Vovia as president of the company.

She enjoys running Vovia in a dog-friendly space stocked with candy, beer, video games and a ping-pong table to ease the pressure of constantly performing to a high degree.

Able to build an efficient team that performs well in collaborative relationships has led to great work and strong client relationships, she says.

The firm has grown exponentially due to a number of key staffing moves. Vovia promoted and partnered with longtime employee Heather Isley, vicepresident of client service, hired Stacey McIntyre as vice-president of media and is now primed to continue its streak of innovation and growth.

The company has been successful in attracting some major accounts, such as ATB Financial in 2016.

“Vovia completely caught us off guard in the RFP process,” said Carol Shmygol, head of marketing and brand for ATB. “We kept asking each other, ‘Who are these guys and why haven’t we heard of them?’ However, it was apparent they were the right partner for ATB’s business goals and have proven their value with definable results ever since.”

In addition to ATB Financial, Vovia has an influential portfolio of clients including Calgary Coop, Cabela’s, SAIT, Alberta Ballet, Hopewell, Bow Valley College, SaskPower and Absorb.

Vovia offers a full range of media services, including strategic planning, research, buying, organization, and analytics across both digital and traditional channels. Continued growth has led to expanding its digital team, with four dedicated contract workers in Mumbai, India, and expansion into Edmonton, Regina and Winnipeg with agency partners.

Deadline for nominations for the 2018 annual Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management is May 11.

The award celebrates outstanding arts administrators and provides additional professional development benefits to the recipient and the organization they represent.

The Rozsa Award was created in 2002 to honour the philanthropic efforts of Ted and Lola Rozsa. To date, it has distributed more than $1 million to its award recipients.

For the past 20 years, the Calgary Seniors Resource Society has been supporting the growing need for programs and services to help keep seniors healthy, independent and safe in their homes for as long as possible.

On June 2, it is holding a One for the Ages benefit concert at Studio Bell featuring Canadian artist Beverley Mahood. The fundraiser will help support a team of social workers and volunteers in providing home visits, assisted shopping and helping seniors solve and cope with mental, behavioural and emotional issues.
