Lineup announced for fall’s Wide Cut Weekend

- ERIC VOLMERS

Songwriter and producer Colin Linden, Texas singer-songwriter Sam Baker, Gordie Tentrees, Romi Mayes and Calgary’s Tom Phillips & The D.T.s are among the acts scheduled for Wide Cut Weekend in October.

The festival, which runs Oct. 12 and 13 at various venues in Calgary, announced its lineup on Wednesday evening at the Blues Can in Inglewood.

The festival was founded in 2015, named after Allison Brock’s longrunning Wide Cut Country show on CKUA. Brock is artistic director.

This year’s highlights include Linden, an expat who now lives in Nashville and is one-third of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. He has also produced records for Bruce Cockburn and Lindi Ortega among others.

Baker is a Texas country-folk songwriter whose latest record, 2017’s Land of Doubt, was described as “atmospheric, beautiful and edgy collection” by No Depression.

Other confirmed acts include Primary Colours, a newly formed trio featuring Kim Richey, Doug Cox and former Spirit of the West multi-instrumentalist Linda McRae; Halifax-born country singer Ridley Bent; Yukon folkie Kim Beggs; Nashville country couple Fats Kaplin and Kristi Rose; Calgary songwriter Emily Triggs; Edmonton’s Celtic-bluegrass singer-songwriter Maria Dunn; Edmonton’s Erin Kay; blues player Sean Pinchin; Winnipeg ’s Sean Burns Band and Calgary’s Bryson Waind and the Citizens’ Band.
