Jane’s Walk honours the legacy of the urbanist Jane Jacobs by having members of the local community hosting free walking tours in the places they live. Here are five to get you thinking while you step.

Wildlife in the City

Hear stories from the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilita­tion Society and get answers to your questions about the skunks, songbirds, geese, ducks, and hares that call Calgary home.

Friday, May 4. Meet at Starbucks, 2219 4th St. S.W. 2 p.m.

10-Minute Plays

Six theatre companies were tasked with creating a play about Calgary’s history; you get to enjoy them as you walk along Stephen Avenue.

Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6. Meet at Theatre Junction Grand Lobby, 608 1st St. S.W., 1 p.m.

Indigenous Walk ’n’ Drum on the Hill

Nose Hill Park is home to a Blackfoot Medicine Wheel; learn about its significan­ce and hear stories and songs. Feel free to bring your own drum and blanket.

Saturday, May 5. Meet at Nose Hill Park 14th Street Parking Lot. Noon.

Reader Rock Garden

The garden used to be part of the private residence of Mr. William Reader; it’s since been opened up to the public as a three-acre park and designated a national historic site. Learn its history at this walk.

Saturday, May 5. Meet at Parking Lot, Corner of Macleod Trail and 25th Avenue S.E. 11 a.m.

New Central Library Walking Tour

The inside is off limits to the public until later in the year; for now you’ll have to be satisfied with an exterior walking tour highlighti­ng the architectu­re and “the special spaces within.”
