All signs point to the UFC’s return to Calgary finally having a main event.

After several days of rumours that the promotion was looking to book a lightweight fight between notorious brawlers Dustin Poirier and former 155-pounds champion Eddie Alvarez, a report from MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani said the fight has been confirmed. Postmedia did not receive official confirmation.

Both fighters also took to Twitter on Thursday to suggest that the fight was on.

“See you in Calgary (Poirier), best of luck my friend,” Alvarez wrote.

Poirier then followed up with a simple tweet saying “See you there.”

Both men are on the cusp of title shots and are coming off TKO victories over Justin Gaethje in their last fights.

They previously fought at UFC 211 last may, but the match was ruled a no-contest after almost three rounds of thrilling back-andforth action.

The UFC’s return to Calgary is set for July 28 and will feature a co-main event between former featherweight champion Jose Aldo and contender Jeremy Stephens.

Members of the UFC’s Fight Club will be able to buy tickets on May 30 at 10 a.m., newsletter subscribers can purchase tickets on May 31 at 10 a.m. and tickets will be available to the general public on June 1 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster and prices will be released at a later date.
