Riverview Custom Homes wins third Builder of Merit award

- JOSH SKAPIN

Riverview Custom Homes has become a familiar face at the podium of a competition celebrating the top performances in Calgary’s residential industry.

The company earned its third Builder of Merit honour at the BILD (Building Industry and Land Development) Calgary Region Awards — formerly known as the SAM (Sales and Marketing) Awards. Last year’s winners were announced during an event at the Telus Convention Centre on April 14.

This was the third time in four years that Riverview has won Builder of Merit, the top honour among small volume builders at the competition.

“This year was just as much, if not more special, as it reaffirmed the consistency for the love of our product,” says Christopher York, president. “It was mixed emotions as we were sitting there waiting for the announcement. One of the homes we entered that I was sure would get named a finalist, didn’t,” he adds. “You never know what will catch the judges’ eye.

“After winning an award early in the night, I knew there was a shot at Builder of Merit depending on how the rest of the Builder’s points played out. Hearing our name called was exhilarating. I was proud and excited given how great the competition was.”

Builder of Merit is one of five Grand Awards, the highest honours at the competition. This year, the others were Calbridge Homes for Builder of the Year, Shane Homes for Multi-Family Builder of the Year, Kon-strux Developments for Renovator of the Year, and 3HD Building Systems for Partner of the Year.

Finalists for Builder of Merit included Dream Ridge Homes, Maillot Homes, Douglas Homes, and Urban Indigo Homes.

“We know we have a strong place in the building community and continue to solidify that as a brand and company,” York says. “Winning three out of the last four years tells prospective clients that we are consistently producing amazing architecture but when you meet with our team, you will see how much passion we put into every facet of the building process.”

Riverview also won a New Homes Award for Best New Home — $620,000-$719,999 with its private residence entry dubbed Casa Blanca.

This home, built in southwest Calgary, measures about 2,600 square feet. “The clients were amazing with great style and our design team did an incredible job,” York says. “It had great transmission of light from front to back and a defined connection from interior to exterior elements.”

He calls it a “classic and tasteful colour palette with infusions of wood for warmth.”

“When we photographed it, I couldn’t help but think how being in that home just made me feel good, and how proud I was that we had created it,” York adds.
