BROOKFIELD RESIDENTIAL

- Josh Skapin

Brookfield Residential was recognized with two development awards at the recent Calgary Region BILD Awards, with Cranston’s Riverstone being named Community of the Year City of Calgary, and Livingston crowned New Community of the Year. Here’s an edited interview with Ryan Boyd, senior vicepresident, Calgary communities, Brookfield Residential.

Q To what do you attribute Riverstone and Livingston being named Community of the Year City of Calgary, and New Community of the Year, respectively?

A When it comes to a Brookfield Residential community, it’s really our vision to create a sense of belonging. So we take care in ensuring the amenities and place-making features are there to create that desired connection between people.

It’s also our stability (reaching 60 years of operation in Alberta this year) and trust that people have in us to do the right thing.

It’s our focus on listening. We listen to the customer — spending time in surveys, focus testing, hearing from them directly, involving them in planning where possible. And it’s the learning and expertise we are able to access thanks to Brookfield Residential’s North American reach: the 11 other U.S. and Canada markets we operate in.

All of this adds up to a positive experience for our customers and a customer satisfaction recognition of 95 per cent.

Q What do you feel these awards tell people in the market for a new home about these communities?

A Our goal is to makes people’s lives better and provide a buyer with choice and affordability in our Calgary communities. We were truly thrilled to see the Livingston and Cranston’s Riverstone communities recognized for their merit. For prospective buyers, this validates a decision to choose a Brookfield Residential community.

Folks in Livingston and Cranston’s Riverstone already know that they live in an awesome community. You can be assured that these awards underscore the pride and care we take in creating the best places to call home.

Q Is there a common thread between Riverstone and Livingston that you feel makes them both desirable places to live — or are they successful for unique reasons?

A These communities are at opposite ends of the city and both have distinctive geographic features, but they share a common thread that runs through all of our communities: people can find a place and way to belong.

Q What can you share about the future communities around the corner for Brookfield Residential?

A This is our 60th year of developing communities in Alberta, and we’re launching our 94th and 95th communities this year in the Calgary area. Seton offers a complete community for residents and will redefine urban living in south Calgary. We’re also going to be launching Chinook Gate, Brookfield’s first community in Airdrie. It’s directly adjacent to the tremendous Chinook Winds park and where the most trusted builders are bringing community to life.
