With brutal storms in its past, let’s hope John Fogerty skips his song Have You Ever Seen the Rain when he takes to the stage at Oxford Stomp this summer.

The former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman is the headliner at the annual corporate Stampede party, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

The lineup also includes Grammy Award winner Melissa Etheridge, Canadian roots rockers Skydiggers, and Juno Award winner Barney Bentall at the popular event, which moves this year from Fort Calgary to Shaw Millennium Park.

“The venue was selected for its infrastructure, central location, LRT access, green grass, and unobstructed views to the stage from virtually every site location” said Sarah Geddes, communications director for the Oxford Stomp.

The Oxford Properties event raises funds for the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre.

The one-day concert is on Friday, July 13 at 1220 9th Ave. S.W. Tickets are on sale on the event website: www.oxfordstomp.com

Theatre is giving queer youth a voice through the fourth annual YOUth Riot Showcase. YOUth Riot is a workshop-based program where LGBTQ youth learn about the arts from playwriting to spoken word over the course of three months. The program’s goal is to mentor participants, foster creativity and nurture confidence, acceptance, and positive self-image. The experience of growing up within the queer spectrum is marginalizing and even dangerous at times and allowing queer youth to have a platform that gives them ownership is paramount, says Trevor Rueger, executive director of Alberta Playwrights Network, which is leading the program.

“We’re not driving the narrative of the stories heard on the stage. The work that these queer teens are creating is their own; their unfiltered voices. APN is thrilled to host this program and support these incredible voices in telling their stories.”

The YOUth Riot Showcase is the culmination of work created through the program.

The showcase features actors and directors from the Calgary professional arts community, and will be presented at Lunchbox Theatre at the base of the Calgary Tower (160, 115 9th Ave. S.E.) on May 14 at 7:30 p.m.

There is a suggested donation of $15.
