Wacky, wonderful foods

- ANNA JUNKER A full list of the Calgary Stampede’s food features is available online at calgarystampede.com/food.

You’ve heard about the giant squid on a stick and deep-fried prairie oyster balls at the Stampede. Now get ready for even more wacky and wonderful food selections that have been added to the midway and that just might blow your cowboy boots off.

Cactus Juice: Traditionally known as Nopales juice, this traditional Mexican drink is a great way to cool off on the scorching Stampede grounds. It’s green, refreshing and just a little bit tart. This will surely quench your thirst.

Macaroni and Cheetos Campfire Pie: It has macaroni. It has gooey, gooey cheese. And the piece de resistance? Cheetos. That’s right. You can enjoy these “gourmet campfire pies” made in cast iron presses over an open flame.

Pizza Corndog: Have you ever had to make the difficult choice between a slice of ooey, gooey cheesy pizza or the Stampede staple of a corndog ? Well, don’t fret. With the pizza corndog, you can have both. This new corndog is filled with a hotdog, mozzarella cheese, Italian herbs and spices, and is coated in batter. Then, it’s fried until golden. It’s also served with homemade pizza sauce for dipping.

Black Charcoal Pineapple Ice Cream: Who doesn’t love spending time on the midway and then grabbing some ice cream to cool down? The Black Charcoal Pineapple Ice Cream is a twist on one of the hottest ice cream trends. The black ice cream is served right out of a fresh pineapple, so you can cool down and eat something somewhat healthy, too! Did we mention it will look great on your Instagram page? Cheesy Cheese Bacon Cheeseburger: This year, it’s all about the cheese. This is a fresh, hot-offthe-grill cheeseburger. It’s served with a side of melty cheese sauce for dipping. A true explosion of cheese in your mouth.
