Disturbing content. When paramedics arrived to find violent sex offender Bogdan Radulescu standing over his bloodied victim, he claimed they were filming a pornographic video.

And after his victim crawled toward her rescuers, Radulescu licked her blood from the floor, a Calgary court heard Friday.

Radulescu, 32, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after provincial court Judge Harry Van Harten accepted a joint Crown and defence submission following a guilty plea to three charges, including aggravated sexual assault.

Reading from a statement of agreed facts, prosecutor Karuna Ramakrishnan detailed the horrific set of events that ended with medics rescuing the woman Oct. 28.

They began with Radulescu going to a Tim Hortons on Macleod Trail to look for a rape victim, Ramakrishnan said.

But after waiting several minutes outside the women’s washroom, Radulescu gave up and walked to a nearby restaurant and lounge.

When the waitress said she could not serve him beer because it was still before 9 a.m., he punched her in the jaw, knocking her to the floor.

He later told police his plan was to knock the woman out so he could rape her, the prosecutor said.

But when that failed, Radulescu moved to a nearby store, where he encountered a female working alone. He knocked her to the floor with a punch and then straddled her and began choking her, repeatedly smashing her head into the floor.

The offender then forced his victim to engage in oral sex before she lost consciousness, Ramakrishnan said.

“She was bleeding profusely from her severely damaged mouth,” she said. “Radulescu then dragged the unresponsive victim into the back storage room.”

There he continued the violent physical and sexual assault and attempted to have sexual intercourse as well.

“He told the victim that he intended to rape and kill her,” the prosecutor said.

A customer entered the store and, seeing blood, called 911.

“The paramedics interrupted the sexual assault,” Ramakrishnan said. “The paramedics found Radulescu standing over the victim in the storage room. Both were naked and bloody.”

At that point the offender said “cut the camera” and the victim

crawled to the paramedics and was covered in a blanket.

One then asked Radulescu his name and he replied: “My name is Billy be-bop de-bop.

“Then Radulescu started licking blood up off of the floor,” the prosecutor said.

“He said, ‘I’m schizophrenic and she’s bi-polar, we were making a porn movie.’”

Defence lawyer Allan Fay said Radulescu, who was on probation and had only been released from jail three days earlier, said his client’s schizophrenia has played a significant role in his criminal behaviour.

Van Harten granted a request by Crown prosecutor Tom Buglas, who called the attack a “case of stark horror,” for an order that Radulescu must serve at least half of his remaining sentence before he can seek parole.

With credit for pre-trial custody, Radulescu has 14 years left to serve.
